Jamie Martin was named the 2024 Polar Plunge Ambassador for Region G because he embodies the dedication and passion that defines the Special Olympics movement. He works hard to champion inclusivity and to support individuals like him with intellectual disabilities.

Through his role, Jamie has been a leader, willingly taking the first step to advocate for his peers, draw awareness, and help to raise resources. Over the last several months, Jamie has made several radio show appearances, given interviews, and was even named a deputy for a day by the Peoria Police Department.

When the time finally came for the Bloomington Polar Plunge on February 24, Jamie could not have been happier to be amongst the more than 1,000 supporters and participants who gathered at Lake Miller Park to brave the icy waters.

With a smile on his face, he exclaimed, “It’s so amazing. I’m so proud to have this community.” He continued, “I’m so supportive of you guys, I’m just very glad to be the ambassador. I am really so glad.”

Jamie’s dedication to his role as Polar Plunge Ambassador contributed to raising more than $165,000 to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes.  Once plunge season is over, you can be sure Jamie will continue to work towards advancing the Special Olympics mission by utilizing his voice and advocating for himself and other athletes.
