Emmerson Hjort, a 21-year-old athlete from Region I, has dedicated 14 years to Special Olympics Illinois, showcasing her sports abilities in gymnastics, golf, softball, and more. She actively participated in fundraisers like Red Robin’s “Tip a Cop” and Polar Plunge, raising funds and spirits alike.

Emmerson has been selected as the 2024 Polar Plunge Ambassador for Mahomet. This will be the 7thyear in a row she has served in this role. Her responsibilities include helping plan the Polar Plunge, participating in interviews, helping plan the costume theme, recruiting new plungers, and even helping clean up the Plunge!

For Emmerson, the Polar Plunge isn’t just an event–it’s a chance to give back and support Special Olympics Illinois. She eagerly anticipates seeing everyone, from friends to police officers, come together for a cause close to her. Her commitment and enthusiasm make her a beacon of community spirit within Special Olympics Illinois.
