“He was all smiles and excited, so energetic and ready to strike a pose as soon as he saw a camera.”

That description perfectly captures David, this year’s Plunge Ambassador for Region K. From the moment the cameras came out, he was in his element, posing on the court, jumping into group shots, and cheering on his fellow athletes.

His energy was contagious, setting the tone for the 2026 LETR Polar Plunge photo shoot. Athletes from across Southern Illinois turned sidewalks and a basketball court into the ultimate street-style set. Laughter echoed between shots, merch was proudly on display, and every athlete brought their own confidence and personality to the camera.

“I loved every minute of it,” David said. “I love being in front of the camera.”

David has been part of Special Olympics Illinois since high school, competing in sports like softball throw, bowling, bocce, basketball skills, and the 100-meter walk. While he doesn’t take the icy plunge himself, he loves being part of the experience. “I love watching my coaches freeze as they get in,” he shared.

The shoot highlighted the Polar Plunge community as a whole. Athletes supported one another, showed off this year’s incentive merchandise, and enjoyed the experience together. As ambassador, David hopes to encourage others to fundraise and get involved. “I’m excited to show off all the different merchandise in hopes of raising lots of money,” he shared.

This Polar Plunge season, every dollar raised supports athletes who train hard, compete with heart, and show up for one another.  Grab your gear, join the fun, and help athletes like David shine this Polar Plunge season.
